The Eighth Route Army Headquarters Memorial in Matian covers an area of 4,700m2. With an area of 697 m2, 18 exhibition rooms of the Memorial are composed by three natural courtyards, including former site of the headquarters office (two exhibition halls of Eight Route Army Headquarters in Matian and Life Story of Peng Dehuai), Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping (including Deng Xiaoping in Taihang Mountain”) and Former Residence of Zuo Quan and Luo Ruiqing (including such special exhibition as inscriptions and photos of the old leading cadre). 183 pieces of revolutionary relics are collected in the Museum and 370 photos are exhibited in the exhibition rooms. In particular, the Headquarters Office is the office then (Fight Division). Seven rooms in the east are rooms with one or two bedrooms; four rooms in the west are bedroom and office of Commander in Chief Peng Dehuai, items in the interior room being arranged as that when Peng lived there and in the exterior room displays photos and items in his lifetime and during the War of Resistance against Japan, reflecting Commander Peng’s life in guiding the Eight Route Army during the war. Rooms in the south are the residence room and office of He Tingyi and Teng Daiyuan. There are also residence rooms and offices of guards and two residence room and offices with cellar of Headquarters Confidential Secretary Li Qi in the east of the North Building, while east of the gate is kitchen of the Headquarters. All courtyards are in orderly layout and the Museum is a place for people to commemorate the proletarian revolutionaries of the old generation and glorious achievements of numerous martyrs.
