he theme of Anhui Pavilion in 2010 Shanghai World Expo is “There is no town without Hui Merchants—Hui Culture makes the city more colorful”. Gush Multimedia is the turnkey contractor for Anhui Pavilion. The profound Hui Culture nourishes the confucianist ideology of Hui merchants. Hui merchants have commanded the commercial circles of China for more than 300 years, creating an immortal legend in China’s commercial history. 

Hui merchants are well-known for their special traits of “openness, entrepreneurship, innovation capability, harmony and integrity”, just like bamboo shoots vigorously spreading everywhere of Anhui. “Bamboo shoot” is used to praise spirit of Hui merchants, helping the audience understand the relatively abstract essence of spirit of Hui merchants and forming the unique symbolic language of Anhui Pavilion. 

Based on interpretation of the exhibition theme, space volume and exhibition requirements are taken into full consideration in terms of function design. Thus, Anhui Pavilion is divided into two functional exhibition zones, i.e. general interpretation zone of “Hui Culture” and multimedia theme demonstration zone of that “There is no town without Hui Merchants”

In the general interpretation zone of “Hui Culture”, historical elements of “Hui Culture” is organically integrated with modern city and life of residents, in concert with and responding to the theme of “Better City, Better Life” of the World Expo. In terms of theme and united exhibition design, modern mainstream design elements are properly applied, in concert with “Chinese Wisdom” displayed by China Pavilion, showing the humanity history, modern life and city development course of Anhui. By abundant visual elements, various contents contained in Anhui Culture are concluded and arranged, including economics, society, education, academy, art, handicraft, architecture and medical science.
