South Revolution Memorial, set up in October 1959, is a site for promoting and protecting the First National Congress of the CPC in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. As one of the modern memorial museums, it is subordinate to Jiaxing South Lake Scenic Area Management Committee. In 1985, Deng Xiaoping wrote the name for the memorial.
At the beginning, the memorial was founded on the central island of South lake, taking ancient buildings as a place for the CPC history exhibitions. In June 1991, South Lake Revolution Memorial was built along the eastern coast with the donation of Jiaxing people and opened to the public. It covers an area of 3,800 square meters with the construction area of 1,980 square meters. The main building takes the CPC emblem as its shape. The museum has a major display, namely, the Beginning of Big Event - the First National Congress of CPC Historical Data Display. To better protect and use the political resources, the South Lake Revolution Memorial Museum Expansion Project was approved by related departments of the CPC Central Committee in October 2005. The expanded museum, which locates at the south bank of South Lake, began the construction from March 5, 2007, covering an area of 2.73 hectares with a total construction area of 19,633 square meters. It is 10 times of the original museum area, with three buildings of "one main and two subsidiaries", and the Chinese character “H” architectural style is adopted. The New Museum has been officially opened to the public since the 90th anniversary of the birth of the CPC in 2011.
